A connective tissue graft (often shortened to CTG) is a gum grafting technique used when there is gum recession (exposed root surfaces), thin gums or esthetic concerns related to dark coloured roots.
This technique has the best esthetic outcomes as the graft is placed underneath the existing gum, so the colour match is the same as the surrounding tissues. Also, this technique obtains the best possible root coverage. The connective tissue graft is usually taken from the tissue behind the upper teeth on the roof of the mouth and can be used alone or with regenerative biologics such as PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) and EMD (amelogenin protein).
