It is so important when we treat a patient to ensure that the procedure will be successful and will last long term! Here are some very important factors that will dictate the success of treatment:
- Etiology had been addressed (for example, hard traumatic toothbrushing habits have been changed to soft, gentle brushing.)
- NO smoking! Smoking creates vasoconstriction of the blood vessels around the surgical site and significantly delays healing. We recommend no smoking for at least 1 day prior and up to 14 days after the procedure.
- General health and healthy nutritional habits (for example, uncontrolled diabetes can prevent the site to heal optimally.)
- Compliance with post-operative instructions for the days and weeks following surgery.
